Life Support Medical General Information - Medication Reminder Alerts

Life Support Medical Home Monitoring System:

Life Support Medical offers the most comprehensive in-home wireless Medical Alert System. The system helps people who are aging, suffering health challenges due to illness, live independently and safely at home.

Life Support Medical is the most complete system on the market, yet it is very affordable, and it covers things that most systems fail to.

For example, if a client passes out or is knocked unconscious from a fall, how do they manage to push a button that calls for help? They don't!

Life Support Medical has an automatic fall detector. If a client passes out, or falls and is knocked unconscious by a hit to the head, this system still makes the call.

The Life Support Medical system places emergency buttons in all the common places people get sick, fall, or suffer accidents at home like besides, stairwells, bathrooms and kitchens.

The Life Support Medical Home Monitoring system offers:

- Fire protection with a state of the art fire detector
- Carbon monoxide poisoning monitoring with a carbon monoxide detector
- Medication reminder with a medication reminder alert program
- An Inactivity Zone monitoring feature for when clients fail to move about during the day
- Flood detector for accidents involving water overflowing in bathrooms and kitchens
- Plus, the 4 Step Fall Protection for when a client/patient falls down and can’t get up:
o Wearable, submersible pendent or bracelet

NBA's All Time 50 Greatest Players: Excerpts from Standing Above the Crowd: Success Strategies in Athletics, Business, Community and Life by James Donaldson

Excerpts from Standing Above the Crowd: Success Strategies in Athletics, Business, Community and Life by James Donaldson.  Release date is January 201l.  Pre-order now and save!!!

I know that there are a lot of NBA basketball fans out there who will get a kick out of my chapter on my experiences playing against and observing some of the greatest players in NBA history.  I'll send out an excerpt from this chapter everyday leading up to the book release.  I welcome your comments!

THE 50 GREATEST PLAYERS IN NBA HISTORY

One of the most frequently asked questions that I encounter besides “how tall are you?” is either who is the greatest player that I've ever played against, or who is the toughest player that I've ever played against?  Depending on the person’s knowledge of basketball who's asking the question, I typically give a couple different responses.  There's a big difference between “the greatest” and “the toughest”.

The game of basketball has been around for a long time now and it has evolved over the years from when Dr. James Naismith first tied a peach basket an old barn post and the players were shooting two hand set shots, to now where the game is played on a global scale with some of the finest athletes in the world.  There were great players back in the beginning of the game, just as they're great players now.  I don't know if it's ever totally fair to compare players from one era against players of another era.  Periodically you see sports aficionados coming up with hypothetical computerize scenarios of say the great Green Bay Packers of the 60s versus the New England Patriots of the new millennium.  It's impossible to really say who the best players are or which team would come out on top.  But it's a fun exercise and it creates a lot of heated conversation amongst the fanatics and all of us.

I was lucky to play during perhaps the greatest era of NBA basketball.  My NBA career spanned two decades essentially, from 1980 – 1996.  Some of the greatest NBA players to ever play the game played during that era.  I remember as a rookie in 1980 marveling at the great Dr. J. and also been privileged to witness the new era of NBA basketball that was brought to us by Ervin “Magic” Johnson and Larry Bird.

All in all I was privileged to play against over 30 of the all-time 50 greatest NBA players ever.  I'm going to go through the whole list of the 50 greatest players and share my thoughts with you in regards to either actually playing against them or watching them as I was a youngster.  They are listed in alphabetical order and if you want to find the actual numerical order in which they are listed by the NBA you can check out their website at NBA.com

James Worthy

[[posterous-content:pid___0]]

In the breakneck speed of the daunting fast-break of the “Showtime Lakers,” James Worthy was probably the fastest and most valuable member.  He possessed catlike quickness and sprinter speed to get from one end of the court to the other for one of his patented Tomahawk dunks.  Playing with Magic Johnson didn’t hurt, but Worthy showed that he was able to carry the team from time to time by putting up tremendous numbers himself.

Worthy was one of those rare blends of athletic ability, intelligence, teamwork, unselfishness, a hard work ethic, and coachable.  He was a winner everywhere he went as he was also an NCAA champion at the University of North Carolina.

Worthy managed to get his share of the limelight even on a star-studded team like the Los Angeles Lakers of the 1980s.  That's saying something in itself but he was consistently productive game after game, and year after year.  The Lakers won multiple championships during James Worthy's tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers.

I don't think there was ever an adequate defense devised that could slow down James Worthy.  It seemed like he was everywhere at once because he was so quick, he gave his defenders fits.  He was also a pretty good defender in his own right in playing the passing lanes and coming up with steals and putting pressure on his man.
After an illustrious career, Worthy moved on to be a bona fide TV commentator for NBA basketball games.

Lenny Wilkens

I didn't have the pleasure of watching Lenny Wilkens, the player, but I did have the pleasure of being coached by Lenny Wilkens, the coach, when I was with the Seattle SuperSonics in the early ‘80s.  Anybody who knows basketball history can tell you that Lenny Wilkens was one of the all-time great players in NBA history and then he went on to become the all-time winningest coach in the history of the NBA.  That's quite an accomplishment!

Wilkens was one of my favorite coaches because he really understood the mental makeup of the NBA player.  I played with the Sonics just a year after they won their one and only NBA championship in 1979.  When I was with them, the team was still stocked with NBA championship caliber players in every position, and Lenny Wilkens did a masterful job of continuing to coach the team in spite of missing a couple of the key players from the championship team.  I love the fact that he treated us like men instead of little boys, but with that, he had a big expectation that you would conduct yourself like men and be professional.  That was a great way for me to break into the league – to be coached by someone like Lenny Wilkens.

Wilkens went on to have a very lengthy coaching career and success at virtually every stop along the way.  His teams seemed to be always competitive and in the hunt for another title, which miraculously somehow eluded him the rest of his coaching career.  It just goes to show you how difficult winning an NBA championship is in the first place.  You have to have all the right pieces in place, and then have a great coach like Lenny Wilkens.

Jerry West

**(Satch Sanders’ assist):

Jerry West is the third part to the argument as to “which player is the best of the big guards”?  Many mature fans feel that “Mr. Clutch,” as he was called for his many game-winning shots, was the best of the Oscar “Big O” Robertson / Michael Jordan argument as to who was the best all time.

Whatever the choice, Jerry West was a super scorer and leader of the Los Angeles Lakers during the ‘60s and early ‘70s.  His quickness of hands on defense and the speed with which he could get his extremely accurate shots off marked West as one of the game’s greatest.

Bill Walton

Bill "The Big Redhead" Walton was a “one-of-a-kind” player during the height of his NBA career back when the Portland Trailblazers won the NBA championship in the mid-‘70s.  He possessed a complete package that coaches love to see in their centers –the ability to score, rebound, block shots, trigger the outlet pass, play defense, and lead his team to victory.

Walton was probably one of the very first players to cut across the “NBA culture,” so to speak, when he joined the league.  He sported a long mane of red hair and a beard several inches long to match.  He was one of those “free living and free loving” kinds of guys that seem to be fresh out of the “flower children” generation of the ‘60s.  But hey, this is the NBA, and as long as you can play, perform and win, there seems to be a place for you.

I became a teammate of Bill Walton when we were both with the San Diego Clippers in 1984.  We played three years together (one year in San Diego before the team moved to Los Angeles the following year) and I learned a lot about playing the center position as his teammate.  He was versatile enough so he could play power forward in tandem with me playing the center position.  He was a fun-loving guy, and a hoot to have as a teammate.

I remember the time when our coach, Jim Lyman, called a time out during the game and as we’re all huddling around each other trying to listen in, Walton screams at the top of his lungs… “Coach, I have a three in me” (meaning that he wanted to take a 3 point shot).  Coach Lyman just smiled and asked Bill to “save it for another time.”  Bill Walton always kept the team loose and ready to compete.

Bill was injury-prone much of his career, so he commonly took practices off and didn't play every single game so that he could rest his aching body.  He would often coach me from the sidelines and give me a lot of tidbits on how to be a better player.  While we were teammates with the Los Angeles Clippers, I would give him a ride to practice as I would meet him at a designated intersection on Pacific Coast Highway where he would tie up his bicycle to the light pole and we'd drive to practice together.  He was always positive and upbeat, and would often try to get me to join him on the sidelines (probably so he could have company, not necessarily encouraging me to skip practice), but I didn't have that superstar status like he did, so I thought I'd best get my butt out there and practice.

It's been wonderful to see Bill Walton continue to grow and mature as a person as he's moved on to a successful TV commentating career after overcoming a severe stuttering problem he had when he was younger.  That's an inspiration for a lot of people to keep on working on “their game” and you can overcome whatever challenge is facing you.  He also went on to become an NBA champion again with the Boston Celtics in the mid-‘80s.  Many people wonder how great a career Walton would have had if he had stayed healthy throughout, but it's safe to say that he nevertheless ranks right up there with the all-time greats by being a two-time NBA champion and Hall of Famer.

Nate Thurmond

(Satch Sander’s assist):

There used to be constant debate as to who was the best all around center in the 60’s between Nate Thurmond, Wilt Chamberlain or Bill Russell.  Nate Thurmond’s name was always in the mix.

This versatile center’s shot blocking and board work helped to take the San Francisco Warriors to their many playoff appearances.  Everyone knew that it was not a good idea to get the “rise to the occasion” center angry as he would then be a supremely dominant player.

Isaiah Thomas

For being a small guard, Isaiah Thomas was one of the most competitive and feisty players I've ever seen.  He had an incredible will to win and wasn't afraid to dust it up with anyone who stood in his way.

Isaiah came from a winning background all the way from high school, then to Indiana University with coach Bobby Knight, and then with the Detroit Pistons where he teamed with some of the most combative players I have ever had to play against, namely McFilthy and McNasty, aka, Rick Mahorn & Bll Laimbeer.  I'm not sure which one was which and it doesn't matter, because they were brutal to play against.

Isaiah was one of the premier point guards of his era in terms of the total package.  He could score, play defense, assist and run the show.  After years of toiling in the shadows of the Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics, the Detroit Pistons finally broke through with a pair of back-to-back NBA championships.  Isaiah was a big reason for that.  His never say die attitude and his willingness to play hard while leading his team to victory was a huge factor.

Of course me being a big guy, I didn't have to match up one-on-one with Isaiah (lucky for me, because I'm sure he would've broke my ankles with his quick dribble moves), and he could tie a team up in knots as he would break down the perimeter defense and then dish off for easy layups, dunks or short jumpers to any of a number of talented teammates.  Playing against guys like that always presents a tremendous challenge.  Isaiah was one of those guys!

John Stockton

I got to know John Stockton when he was still a student athlete at Gonzaga University.  I had just graduated perhaps a couple of years earlier from Washington State University and he was finishing up his senior year at Gonzaga when I met him as they traveled to Seattle Washington for a game.

He was a focused and talented young man even then.  Someone who always paid attention to the fundamentals of the game and was a consummate team player.  Stockton teamed with Karl "the Mailman" Malone his entire career with the Utah Jazz and led them to appearances in the playoffs every single year (which included two appearances in the NBA finals, in which they came up just a little on the short end both times).

Stockton was a small guard by NBA standards, but he competed with the best of them.  I remember one of his favorite plays was then where he would pass the ball off to the wing, rub his man off the high post as he headed down to the baseline right below the basket, then circle back around to set a back pick on me.  Actually, I don't know if that was his favorite play because I remember him telling me when I joined the Utah Jazz during the latter part of my career and became his teammate, "I'm so glad I don't have the set those back picks on you anymore, because I was always ducking your elbows as you tried to swing around to get me".  Stockton was never shy of doing whatever it took to help his team win, even laying his body on the line as he tried to set a back pick on me.

I'd say the most enjoyable part of my career, was when I became teammates with John Stockton.  He was my kind of guy, professional, focused, paying attention to details, helping his teammates to be better and laying it all out there trying to win.

Bill Sharman

(Satch Sander’s assist):

Bill Sharman was the number 2 guard in the Cousy – Sharman duo and was truly an amazingly accurate shooter.  He had a deadly medium range jump shot.  This feisty 6’2” guard was ready to take anyone on if they tried to push him around.

The Celtics rode his exceptional shooting for at least 4 NBA Championships.  His career 90% foul shooting added icing to the cake to this hard-nosed player.

George Mikan

(Satch Sanders’ assist):

George Mikan was the defining center for professional basketball.  At 6’10” this Minneapolis Lakers star player was a dominating player that helped bring many NBA Championships to his team.

Mikan’s low post attack with his swinging left and right handed hook shots determined the outcome for any game in which he played.  This celebrated player was the headline player wherever he performed and his prominence helped to establish the very young NBA professional league.

THE 50 GREATEST PLAYERS IN NBA HISTORY

Kevin McHale

Kevin McHale had to be one of the smartest players that I played against.  His overall court brilliance really shown especially when teamed with Larry Bird and Robert Parrish to form a trio that was very formidable on the court at both ends.  Kevin wasn't the most athletic player but he seemed to have an uncanny knack for rebounds, key blocks, scoring and defense just when his team needed it most.

The Boston Garden is the one arena throughout the whole NBA that I personally never tasted the thrill of victory at and tasted the agony of defeat every single time.  Kevin was a big part of that because he was a perfect complement for the rest of the great Boston Celtic teams that were there throughout the era.
