Back from China/Asia

Thanks Posterous for helping me with my postings from overseas.

I’m back home in the States now, and the service you provided was outstanding!

I highly recommend Posterous.com for keeping your social media blogging/postings going… even when you’re not in town to do so yourself.

Help Needed in Posting Content

Hi Posterous,

I am currently overseas in China and the  Posterous site (along with most other social media sites) is blocked from here.  Is there a way that I could email you my content and you can post for me?  I think that if that is a service you provide (I believe I saw somewhere that it is), that would be very helpful to me and I can keep my postings going and current.

Is there any additional information that you need from me in order to make this happen?

Thanks,

James Donaldson

An Ohio Players Kind of Weekend! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHLz5ZcVVLc&feature=related

I'm finally getting some time to slow it down a touch and continue the "digitalization" of my vinyl LP collection.  I'm doing my entire Ohio Players collection this weekend.  Anybody out there remember them?  A lot of great hit songs "back in the day" such as "Fire", "Heaven Must Be Like This", "Skin Tight", "Jive Turkey", I Want to be Free", "Take De Funk Off, Fly", "Honey", Love Rollercoaster", "Far East Mississippi", and "Sweet Sticky Thing".

I know that most of you out there don't have any ideal what I'm talking about or remember The Ohio Players... but if you do... I'm with you!

I can go on and on with these great songs by one of my all time favorite groups... The Ohio Players. Along with the great songs were the risque (especially back in the day) album covers!!!!

Oh well, if anyone needs to find me this weekend... you know where I'll be! (Smile!)

James Donaldson Shares his Standing Above the Crowd Concepts with the Students at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma, WA. - June 21st 2012

Former NBA all-star who played for the Seattle Sonics, James Donaldson wears a variety of hats since he retired from basketball: business entrepreneur, community leader, professional speaker and author.

He recently visited with a select group of students at Mount Tahoma High School and talked about his book, "Standing Above the Crowd." At 7'2", Donald stands above the crowd in other ways, too.

"He inspired students to be the best they can be and to never give up their dream," said Teresa Maxwell, executive director of Communities in Schools Tacoma (CIS). "He challenged everyone to make a commitment to themselves and aspire to keep that commitment.

"You could hear a pin drop in the auditorium when Donaldson was speaking. We handed out several of his books, and students and staff asked when was he coming back."

Upon retiring from sports when he was 41, Donaldson settled in the Seattle area where he runs the Donaldson Clinic, a physical therapy clinic in Mill Creek.

James Donaldson and the Seattle SuperSonices Team Photo 1982 -1983

Media_httpseattletime_gcanf

I remember this photo and team very fondly from back in 1983. I just had breakfast with Coach Lenny Wilkins this week and he's doing great. I visited with John "JJ" Johnson last week in California. I see Fred "Downtown" Brown a couple of times a year around town.

Where are they now? Zollie Volchak, General Manager, just passed away a couple of months ago. Gus Williams lives in New York; Lonnie Shelton in California; Mark Radford in Oregon; Greg Kelser in Michigan; Steve Hawes, John Grieg, Frank Furtado, Les Habagger, in Seattle, Jack Sikma has been coaching in the NBA, not sure where David Thompson is and I think Danny Vranes is back in Utah, Phil Smith passed away several years ago and ballboy Scott Alsted is in California I believe.

I stay in touch with most of the guys and it's good to see how we're making our way in "Life After The Game".

Care to share some of your Sonic memories from the 1983 team?

James Donaldson's Singles Magazine - Eligibles - A Little Ahead of My Time!

In recently going through documents and paperwork, I came across this gem of a magazine cover.  It is a magazine called, Eligibles, that I owned and worked on while I was in Dallas as a member of the Dallas Mavericks in the 80's.  I was always very entrepreneurial... even back then!

Wow... this was really back in the day!  Check out my hair, beard and clothes!  Nothing has really changed except the beard and hair are gone! (Smile!)

We were match.com before there was a match.com!  We were even charging $.95 a minute to connect with a match.  A lot of fun back in the day!

I came across this archive while going through some documents and thought that I'd share it with everyone on the eve of Game 4 of the NBA Finals.

SR 99 Tunnel Project Groundbreaking Event - June 6th 2012

I was proud to be able to attend the historic groundbreaking event of the SR 99 tunnel.

This is a great example of what we can do as a community when we work together to find the best "win-win" possible.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Article on STEM and Encouraging Youth to Develop Additional Skills

It’s great to see former athletes doing great things “After the Game”.

Here’s a very positive article featuring former NBA great, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as he speaks on being an advocate for STEM education and encouraging our youth to look at developing a variety of skills as they work towards their goals.

You go Kareem!

James Donaldson and the WSU Cougs vs. USSR National Basketball Team in Pullman - 1977

Every once in a while, great memories are shared with me from friends and fans alike from around the world.  Recently, Gary Miller, WSU Class ’78, sent this great photo to me from 1977.

It is a game of WSU vs. the USSR in Pullman.  I remember this game as if it was yesterday.  I specifically remember not being the biggest guy on the floor as the Russians had a guy who was 7’4”!!!, J and another couple guys on the bench who were 7 footers!

The USSR Women’s volleyball team was on the same tour, and I met one of the volleyball players in the weight room… she was able to look me straight in the eye because… she was 7’2” just like me!  Wow!!!

The game???  Who knows? ... Who cares? ... I’ll go with the WSU Cougs on this one! (smile!)
