Traditional Pendant and a Console Systems
ReplyDeleteThe market is flooded with inferior products. Most companies offer an extremely inexpensive or free main console with a single neck or wrist pendant. The electronics are less capable than LifeSupport Medical and usually far inferior in quality. Medical Alert companies often share information and it is an accepted industry statistic that 50% to 80% of customers are not wearing their pendant at the time of an accident or emergency. Medication, pain, illness, distractions and age commonly cause customers to misplace, lose or forget to wear their pendants.
Just ask a family member that has a loved one using the traditional system.
In addition, the leading cause of traumatic brain injury for seniors is accidental falls. If you are unconscious you are unable to press a button. There are a limited number of automatic fall detectors which have been combined with a necklace or wrist pendant. You will almost always find a disclosure which states the automatic fall detector may not work. This is because they use a technology that requires a hard impact in an open space. Most falls occur inside the home and they are often affected by falling against nightstands, walls, counters, cabinets, bathtubs and other furniture. This makes the competitive solution ineffective in many cases. When a life is at stake these statistics and findings are morally, ethically and professionally irresponsible.
A number of companies provide a smoke detector and/or a medication dispenser. Customers typically find that adding a device or two causes prices for monthly services to skyrocket, reaching and surpassing $100 to $200 per month. Medication dispensers require an in-home training. They require turning containers upside down and reloading the dispenser each month. These devices are complicated, are prone to dysfunction, and they are terribly intimidating and difficult for the aging and ill to understand.
